Unlike any other country Nepal celebrates it festival all the way from Baisakh (The first month) to Chaitra (The last month). We are blessed as we get to celebrate and cherish all these festivals and worship our gods at the mean time. With no particular order here is the 10 festivals celebrated in Nepal:
10) Chhath Parva : Celebrated mostly among the people from Terai, this festival includes a part where the Sun is worshipped for providing us with everything that is essential for our survival in this planet. This spiritual belief plays an important role on preserving the culture of this region.
9) Shivaratri : Worshipping the god of destruction might sound odd, but this is what we do on this day. Devotees from all across the world come to Nepal and to be specific Pashupati Nath just to get some blessing from the Temple. The Temple is decorated and maintained for this particular day and is celebrated with great cautions.
8) Teej : Teej is a festival chiefly directed towards girls and only girls. Single girls gets up early in the morning and then prepares themselves and goes to temples and pray for a suitable husband while the married ones take an intermediate fasting for the longevity of their husband. Then after they break their fasting they enjoy the sweets and then dance together as the festival comes to an end in the same day.
7) Loshar : Celebrated among the people from the Mountain regions, this day marks the beginning of the year in the Tibetan calendar. And the festival is celebrated as the Tibetan new year like we celebrate our new year. People put on their traditional clothes organise a small meetup with their family and close ones to exchange greetings and gifts and enjoy the time among themselves.
6) Maghe Sankrati : Manghe Sankrati is celbrated on the first day of Magh. Various delicacy is prepared and shared among friends and family. This day indicates the beginging of a better weather, long and sunny days.
5) Buddha Jayanti : The birth place of Gautam Buddha proudly celebrates the birth date of Gautam Buddha.Not only celebrated in Nepal but across every South Asian country , this day indicates a beginning of peaceful days.
4) Gai Jatra : Followed by the Newari community of Kathmadnu this festival is celebrated or carried out for the wellness of the spiritual health of the deceased member of the family. Cow's are worshipped as it is considered as the transporter to the gates of heaven. This festival is one of a kind and can only be witnessed in the beautiful country Nepal.
3) Holi (Fagu Purnima) : The Festival of colours is a hindu festival celebrated with colours and waters. The whole country gets painted in Red, blue, green with coloured powder as people slash each other with coloured water or simply water to celebrate this festival. The coloured cheek by the powder can be seen all around the town.
2) Tihar : Following up after two weeks of Dashain the festuve vibe still kicks in with the festival of lights. The 5 days of Tihar is celebrated with utmost joy. From worshipping dogs, crows, cow and Goddess Sarswoti to playing Deusi and Bhailo among friends and family to receiving tika and garland from your sisters along with a prayer to the god of death for the longevity.
1) Dashain : The biggest and the grandest festival celebrated in the hindu countries. This festival lasts for 15 days and each day differs in the way it is celebrated from the other. Starting from the day when you plant in the rice seeds for jamara to the last day of the tika. Everyone puts on their best clothes and celbrates the festival by sharing joy, love, and blessing among each other.
