The periphery of Kathmandu is filled with places that can awe us with its its charm be it natural or the man made entities that are simple a piece of art. Here's the list of top 10 places to hangout around Kathmandu :10) Patan Durbar Square : The Patan Durbar square is situated at the centre of the city of Lalitpur in Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of its attraction is the ancient royal palace where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur resided.
The Durbar Square is a marvel of Newar architecture. The square floor is tiled with red bricks. There are many temples and idols in the area. The main temples are aligned opposite of the western face of the palace. The entrance of the temples faces east, towards the palace. There is also a bell situated in the alignment beside the main temples. The Square also holds old Newari residential houses. There are other temples and structures in and around Patan Durbar Square built by the Newa People.
9) Nagarkot : Nagarkot was situated in a strategic location, Nagarkot was an ancient fort of the Kathmandu valley built to monitor the external activities of other kingdoms. Later, it became a summer retreat for the royal family before becoming popular as an international hill station.
But now things have changed a lot since then. As time passed by it became a recreational point because of the beauty its nature beholds. For those active nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, there are lots of hiking opportunities to do in and around Nagarkot.
8) Chandragiri Hill : Getting up as one of the most famous places that peoples are visiting these days.It is seven kilometres from Thankot, and lies on the south-west side of Kathmandu Valley which is 2551 metres above sea level. This hill is connected with both Buddhist and Hindu religions. The hill provides panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan ranges from Annapurna to Everest.

7) Bhaktapur Durbar Square :The Bhaktapur Durbar Square is located in the current town of Bhaktapur which lies 13 km east of Kathmandu. While the complex consists of at least four distinct squares the whole area is informally known as the Bhaktapur Durbar Square and is a highly visited site in the Kathmandu Valley.

6) Boudha Stupa : Boudhanath is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Located about 11 km from the centre and northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu, the stupa's massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal.
The Buddhist stupa of Boudha Stupa dominates the skyline; it is one of the largest unique structure's stupas in the world. As of 1979, Boudha Stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.It is one of the most popular tourist sites in the Kathmandu area.
5) Godawari : Wanna get lost in the nature; well this is the place for you, You definitely wont get lost here but this might be the closest you will ever be to the natures touch unless you go to the wild. The free flowing rivers and the freely flying birds add to the feel of it even more.
As an added bonus the botanical garden has a variety of plants that you might not have encountered this entire time in your life. So this place is a must visit if you're into nature and wanna get away from the busy lifestyle of Kathmandu.
4) Sundarijal : Another great spot for a short trek. The cool climate allures you to its natures beauty. It is is located 15 kilometres (9 mi) northeast of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. It is west of Gagalphedi, east of Nayapati and Baluwa, and north of Aalapot. The VDC touches Nuwakot and Sindhulpalchok Districts to the north.[1]
Sundarijal covers an area of 5.18 square kilometres (2 sq mi). The Bagmati River flows through the VDC, where it is joined by the Shyalmati and Nagmati rivers. Largely hilly in its terrain with few flat areas, the VDC is covered by forests. Shivapuri National Park covers large amounts of Sundarijal.
3) Thamel : A very happening place usually during the night with a line of bars, pubs, and clubs around every corner of this place. Probably the best place in the capital of the country to get a little tipsy. The happening surrounding and the good music also adds in to the feel of it.
You just cant miss out this place if you're a hardcore party person and want to have a to have a good time with good music and also if you love to party along with new people and make new friends.

1) Durbar Marg (Kingsway) : The highlight of the capital the name says it all.( durbarmarg, informally known as King's way) is a street in Nepali city of Kathmandu. It is considered as the heart of Kathmandu city. As it leads to the Royal Palace of Narayanhiti, Durbar Marg is also known as King's way among foreigners. It is a famous tourist area after Thamel. Durbar Marg is a posh area of Kathmandu with luxury hotels such as Hotel Del' Annapurna, restaurants serving international cuisines, pricey boutiques, travel agencies and airline offices.
This is the place to go if you're deciding to pamper yourself a little-bit .
